If Only He Were Here To See

If only he were here to see me, working my first ever job as a waitress. If only he were here see me spill soup all over the place and drop a dirty knife on a customer, and never let me hear the end of it.

If only he were here to see me turn 17 years old. If only he were here to put his serious face on and take me out for my first ever driving lesson. If only he were here to see me pass my driving test and then critique my driving skills afterwards.

If only he were here to hear all about my new boyfriend. If only he were here to grill my boyfriend when he met him to then give me the all clear afterwards. If only he were here to positively impact the life of my boyfriend, like he did mine.

If only he were here to see his first novel of a trilogy being published and him officially becoming an author. Another dream ticked off the list. If only he were here to give an inspiring but comedic speech on the night of his book launch.

If only he were here to see my sister, Bethan meet her now girlfriend, an Italian. If only he were here to share his Italian knowledge with her and to gain some more too.

If only he were here to see me finally complete my A Levels and celebrate with me. If only he were here to advise me on the next year, to discuss what my plan would be and to reassure me that everything would work out in the end.

If only he were here to see how well my Min-gu has been treated by the Marks and Spencer team, especially The Deli team. If only he were here to see how friends and family have gathered to look out for her.

If only he were here to see me start my first full time job working as a Teaching Assistant. If only he were here to tell me stories of when he worked as a Teacher himself.

If only he were here to see my sister, Ffion and her partner James get engaged. If only he were here to celebrate and give congratulations.

If only he were here to see me grow and flourish. If only he were here to read the words I write, and to feedback his honest but fair advice to me.

If only he were here to see how much we all miss him, how big of a hole he left when he went to the special place he’s at now.

If only he were here to see what the family have all achieved individually, how our lives have changed in the three years since he passed away.

If only he were here to see that he had the greatest, most positive impact on every single life he came across in his lifetime. If only he were here to see how highly we all regarded him and what a beautiful soul he really did have.

If only he were here to see all of us, but I’m sure that somewhere, behind a tiny cloud or floating in the air, he can see us. I’m sure he’s very proud, and I’m sure he wishes he could be here too.

Today marks the 3rd anniversary of my Tad-cu’s (grandfather) passing. As mentioned in a previous post, he was one of the best, an absolute legend. He touched the lives of all who met him and I felt I owed it to him to write this today.

Ciao for now x
