Forget The Should’s and Live Your Life…

As are the majority of the posts I write, today’s topic was inspired by what I can only describe as an unnecessary “Gwen stress”. My brain is the biggest fan of over-analysing, overthinking and overdoing.

I have a tendency to get in my head and in turn receive negative thoughts as a consequence of my own doing- if we’re being optimistic I guess it’s classed as a talent, right?

So anyway, let’s cut to the chase and stop trying to be humorous.

I’m sure you’ll agree with me when I say we’re all very guilty of falling into the trap of giving a damn about what other people might or might not say about the way we live our lives. Whether our families and friends are proud or not. But, when do we ever look inside and ask ourselves if WE’RE proud?

I sometimes think some of the best opportunities in life go untouched because we’re too afraid. We’re afraid of what “could” happen. Or confused about what we “should” do according to the rule book of life we’ve been brought up to live by. Who ever made it by sticking to the rules? Nobody memorable, that’s for sure!

But mostly, we care too much. We care about what so-and-so may or may not think or say about our choices.

We often put ourselves down for feeling, reacting or experiencing a certain situation or emotion in a particular way. We convince ourselves we’re doing it wrong, that we aren’t allowed to feel what we feel at that particular time. That it isn’t important because we’re just being silly, despite how real it may feel at that current moment in time.

We live our lives according to what we believe we “should” be doing, feeling or acting. At the end of the day, as I’ve said several times previously, if you’re safe to both yourself and those around you (and kind) who cares what you do?

You and I have both heard the cliche way too many times but, life really is too short to be lived any other way than what makes you happy. Of course, we need to remain mindful of the impact we have on the lives of those around us. Equally, every once in a while we have to prioritise what’s important for ourselves. It all comes down to what feels right for us.

Here comes another cliche. We get one life. Whether it’s a long or short one is unknown and frankly not guaranteed. All we know is what we have. All we can do is what feels right. If we end up being wrong, so what? We’ve made a mistake and a lesson is some shape or form will have been learnt.

Life is all about little successes and many failures. Failures are what help us become the people we are. You would be a completely different person today had you not learnt all that you have so far through past mistakes or failures. To fail is to actually live. To have tried, to have dared, to have braved something out of your comfort zone.

So, give yourself a break. Live your life. Forgive what doesn’t go to plan. Appreciate what does. Live as if this is your only chance, because as far as we know it really is!!!

Ciao for now x
