5 Tips For Adapting To a Busier Life – An Introvert’s “Guide”

Introvert and busy – two words that never coincide. Living a busy life is often associated with constantly going out, socialising and generally having the least amount of time alone as is possible. In other words, an introvert’s nightmare.

(Please see disclaimer at bottom of blog post)

Without sounding patronising, a harsh reality of life is that at times it can get extremely busy, whether we want it to or not. It can be hectic. But, that doesn’t mean it’s not manageable. In fact, a busier way of life can help you grow in a multitude of ways.

Whether it pushes you out of your comfort zone, helps you achieve goals or simply brings more into your life for the better. Being busy doesn’t have to be as daunting as it seems. In fact, busy is proof that you’re living.

  1. You’ Time is Just as Important

Whatever your personality type or preferred way of life, we are all guilty of putting “me time” at the bottom of our priorities lists. Sometimes it doesn’t even make the list. As impossible as it may seem, you time is actually crucial during busier spells of your life. It could be half an hour incorporated into your evening or a specific day of the week – schedule it in to your diary.

For some self-care tips please see my blog post here.

2. Focus On Your Own Pace. Forget Anybody Else’s

The social media focused world we live in makes it extremely difficult not to sit and compare our lives to anybody on our following lists. But, honestly you must resist the urge to compare. The only pace of life, including achievements and such, that you need to worry about are your own. It matters not where you’re at but that you’re putting in efforts and trying your best each day.

3. Take Things One Day at a Time

Whether it’s down to my anxious tendencies or just me in general, but I always find I add unnecessary stress onto myself regarding whether I have enough energy to survive any given, busy week. Getting into a mindset of taking each day as it comes and accepting it for what it is has truly relieved me of so much anxiety and stress. And trust me, I know this is easier said than done but it’s always worth a try.

4. Preparation Is Key

If there’s one thing that will make your life a WHOLE lot easier, it’s preparation. Any food that needs to be prepared for the day – do it the night before. If you’re picky when it comes to clothes – pick out your outfit for the next day, the night before. If there’s something important you need to take – pack it the night before.

Save yourself the potential morning panic by preparing the night before. Preparing your meals for the week is also an idea – if you truly have your s**t together, unlike me.

5. Sleep Is Just as Important as Any Other Priority

When we’re busy, it’s easy to sacrifice a few hours kip to meet that deadline, watch some TV or go out. Whilst all these things are great once in a while, balance is always key. Particularly when you’re busy, sleep becomes even more of a need. But like any necessity, it will catch up to you if you try and avoid it, and unfortunately you may crash.

Save yourself the hassle and just get your much needed shut eye, please! For sleep recommendations please see the list below, as stated by the National Sleep Foundation:

14-17 years old – 8 to 10 hours

18-64 years old – 7 to 9 hours

65+ years old – 7 to 8 hours

*Disclaimer: This “guide” applies to anybody who wishes to take any of it on board. The audience is not limited to introverts*
